Becoming a morning person has only ever been a dream for many people. Too many sluggish mornings and bleary eyes have led to them to believe it’s impossible.
Well I’m here to tell you that it only takes 5 small changes to your routine and your chances of becoming a morning person will increase 10 fold.
I’ve these 5 steps into a handy infographic which you can see below!
Now these things may not seem important enough to be life changing, but they are the absolute foundation you need to become a morning person. If you struggle waking up in the morning then you definitely need to give these steps a try to see the difference for yourself.
Of the 5 steps, I’d say the most important one is definitely having a glass of water before bed. This kicks morning fatigue to the curb and makes waking up and getting up infinitely easier.
I’m not perfect myself and sometimes I go straight to bed at night without drinking anything, but that just leaves me to deal with the regret in the morning. The fright of the alarm clock, the clawing arms of the warm duvet holding me in bed. Not worth it.
So if you adopt only one of the steps make sure you have a glass of water.
Now I’m sure there are some of you scoffing at this because you’re a night owl. There’s no way you could become a morning person right?
Well it turns out that it’s all about your chronotype, the technical word for defining whether you’re a morning person or a night person. Chronotype is based on your preferred bedtime and when you function best.
You can take this great quiz to help find out which you are.
Now the bad news.
But don’t give up hope yet! You can still learn to better cope with mornings!
You may never be the kind of person who can get up at 5am and go for a 5 mile run. But following the steps shown in the infographic above will definitely make morning’s easier to deal with as well as making your process of falling asleep all the easier.
Now I don’t want to get into the “nature vs nurture” debate but I believe that with enough focused effort a person with night owl tendencies could absolutely become a morning person. It won’t be easy but I believe anything is possible, and following the steps from above is going to give you the best chance of success out there.
